OTTAWA - Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she's urging Israel to help de-escalate mounting conflicts in the Middle East by not bombing Iran in retaliation for this weekend's thwarted airstrikes.

"We think that it is important that Israel be able to protect itself, and it has done so over the weekend," Joly said Monday on Parliament Hill.
