VANCOUVER - A Vancouver fusion energy company has been recognized by Time magazine as the world's top green-technology firm for 2026.
The second-annual Time ranking compiled using data by Statista is based on the performance of companies around the world in developing or providing technology and products that "help mitigate or reverse the environmental impacts of human activity."
Vancouver-based General Fusion came in on top of this year's ranking of 250 companies, followed in second spot by geothermal technology firm Eavor, based in Calgary.Â
Time notes that General Fusion, which plans to go public on the U.S. stock exchange this year, finished on top of the rankings due to its specialization in "magnetized target fusion."
Company chief executive Greg Twinney says in a statement that the recognition is the culmination of more than 20 years of development that resulted in the first demonstration machine using the new technology being completed and operational in 2025.
Twinney adds that the company is now planning to "deliver practical fusion power in the next decade†by demonstrating the technology's ability to "deliver reliable, zero-carbon energy at scale.â€
“We are honoured to receive this recognition at a pivotal moment in our journey to become the first publicly traded pure-play fusion company,†he says in the statement. "Fusion has the potential to reshape global energy markets, but success depends on practical engineering, disciplined investment, and a clear path to commercialization."
