EDMONTON - Police say charges have been laid against a man from Prince Edward Island in the disappearance of his Edmonton partner.
Marika "Mika" Sutton was last seen in early August in southeast Edmonton and was reported missing a little more than a month later.
Homicide investigators took over the case in October and travelled last week to Charlottetown, where they arrested a 47-year-old man.
He faces charges of second-degree murder and causing an indignity to a body.
Police say the accused, who has a lengthy criminal history, was in a relationship with Sutton and that there was previous domestic violence.
Investigators believe the woman's body was disposed of somewhere along Highway 2 聽Wetaskiwin and Lacombe and ask anyone with information to come forward.
鈥淚 think it's important that we find Marika's remains. Not only for us, but I think that the family deserves to have that closure as well," Det. Braydon Lawrence told a news conference Friday.
