HAVANA (AP) — Tropical Storm Oscar was heading toward the Bahamas after dumping heavy rain across eastern Cuba on Monday.

Its maximum sustained winds were blowing at 40 mph (65 kph) as Oscar moved north-northeast at 9 mph (14 kph). The storm early Tuesday was about 70 miles (115 kilometers) south of Long Island, Bahamas, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said. A tropical storm warning was in effect for the central and southeastern Bahamas.
