A statement says it appears the vehicle became stuck in very difficult terrain and caught fire.

A deceased man was located nearby with burn injuries.

Police say the body of a woman was also located in the area but that no obvious injuries were observed.

Corp. Paul Britton of the Nakusp RCMP says in the statement that the pair have been tentatively identified but that police are working with the BC Coroners Service to confirm their names and advance the investigation.

"While the investigation remains in the early stages and no conclusions have been made, evidence at the scene suggests that criminality is not a factor in either death," the statement says.
